Zohaib, Misha and Nadia believed they would be in each other’s lives forever. As children they played, argued, teased and loved one another. Yet nothing could have prepared them for the tragic turn of events one fateful afternoon in Karachi, Pakistan, when the divisions and differences between them are revealed.
Years later and they are still trying to piece their lives back together, still trying to make sense of what happened. Zohaib is living in London, haunted by the ghosts of the past. Nadia has escaped the household where she first met Misha and Zohaib but finds fate delivering her back to their door…
The Idle Stance of the Tippler Pigeon is a beautifully rendered portrait of love, healing, and long-buried pain, digging deep into the nature of trauma and class division.
Book Review
The Idle Stance of the Tippler Pigeon is a beautiful book that quietly takes its place in your mind and refuses to leave. This book leans heavily into the complexities of human emotions and the intricacies of relationships. The story unfolds in an engaging manner, setting a visually rich and emotionally textured scene.
Elahi writes from each character’s point of view and uses dual timelines. This writing technique kept me engaged; I wanted to keep reading to see what would happen next. The author’s writing ability and pacing are brilliant as she ties the stories together.
The author tackles several issues within the book that make each character seem more real. I felt such empathy as the author dealt with trauma, racism, and classism. I found myself thinking about this book and its characters frequently.
What strikes me most about #TheIdleStanceoftheTipplerPigeon is its ability to capture the profound loneliness and disconnect one can feel even in the presence of others. The author explores themes of missed connections, the silences that grow in between words never said, and the longing for a life that genuinely feels lived.
Elahi’s writing is brilliant, helping drive home the story’s core emotions and themes. In all, #TheIdleStanceoftheTipplerPigeon is a must-read for those who appreciate stories that make you pause and reflect on the nature of our relationships and the silent battles we fight within ourselves. It’s a quietly powerful book that eloquently speaks volumes on the nuances of what it means to really live rather than merely exist.
